The story of Maurice
Our winery is dedicated to Maurice Schafer — Tom's father who was known as a gentleman, guiding light and civic leader. Maurice worked along side his family to build one of the largest and most successful timber companies in the Pacific Northwest. He was a generous man who people counted on for counsel or assistance. àMaurice means "to Maurice" in French.
While looking through a box of family keepsakes that belonged to her grandfather, Anna found a letter. In the early 1940s when Maurice lived in San Francisco, he often wrote letters to his father, ending them with "Love Maurice." His signature from then on became our logo.
Winemaking practices
Our ultimate goal is to express the true personality of the grapes and to do justice to the fruit.
At àMaurice, our philosophy on wine focuses on clean fermentation which ensures intense flavors that carry through each bottle of wine. We believe in traditional winemaking techniques; however we are constantly learning new innovations to the science of winemaking. The grapes are sampled in the vineyard for ripeness and flavor development to determine picking time. Then they are hand-picked and sorted with care, crushed in small batches, and barrel-aged in French oak to produce quality wines.
Our current winery allows Ned and Anna to blend, bottle and house àMaurice wines. However, big plans are under way. We are designing a facility that will include a larger production area, tasting room and gathering area with gardens.
àMaurice Cellars creates every bottle like every moment, "Drenched in Greatness."
